Question
My year old father was taking a combination drug consisting Atorvas statin(Cholesterol Lowering Drug)and Clopidrogel(Anti Coagulant Drugs)As a routine check up his total blood count was measured and Platelet Level was found to be ONLY 65 thousand instead of NORMAL Value of 1.5 Lacs to 4 Lacs.To the best of my knowledge Anti Coagulant Drugs lower the Platelet Level further.
Whether in this condition the combined drug consisting Anti Coagulant Drug should be discontinued and only Cholesterol Lowering Drugs to be continued, till improvement of the Platelet Level. Please also give suggestions to improve the Platelet Level

Answer
Hi Kalyen,
Clopidogrel is an anti-platelet drug, used to inhibit blood clots in coronary artery disease, peripheral vascular disease, and cerebrovascular disease. It may indeed lower the platelet count. This needs to be discussed with his doctor, who should consider stopping it.
