dear doctor, I'm female 32 years old 5'4 weigh 137. I have mvp,mr, rbbb and heart murmur for 3 years now and my heart has ef of 55 percent. can I live a full life expectancy with this heart problem?my heart leak is very mild I think that's what the doctor told me.i also get echos and stress test yearly and ekg every 3 months.im confused because i just gave birth 2 years ago and no problems at all and my obgyn said that my echos are normal. how can it be normal with 2 valve problems?thank you so much for your help. sincerely, martha

Hi Martha,
Most patients with mitral valve prolapse donít need treatment. Routine examinations including echocardiograms every few years are enough to make sure that the mitral valve leakage has not worsened. If it gets worse, mitral regurgitation may lead to heart failure, heart enlargement, and abnormal rhythms, none of which is an issue in your case. Therefore, MVP patients with mitral regurgitation are often evaluated annually.
