Question
Hi-I have a slightly inflamed earlobe-i wore a nickel covered earring probably-its a bit read and some blood and pus came out not much-do I need antibiotic ?I have mitral prolapse (hashimoto) with +1 regurg. I am so scared.it started 2 days ago

Answer
Hi, read the following article i wrote previously on this topic at http://blog.myheart.net/2013/06/30/mitral-valve-prolapse-part-7-do-i-need-antibi. It pertains to dental procedures but covers the topic.

In brief though you have no reason to be scared and according to contemporary management you don't need antibiotics. The exception would be if you had a history of infection in the heart related to such infections.

So don't worry.

Hope that was helpful,
