Heart & Cardiology/PVCs/mild hypertension/anxiety?

Question
Dr. T,

First, here are my "stats":

33 year old male

5'10" 198 lbs

Active (sedentary the last month though)

Have PVCs - had EKG, stress test, and echo - all clear. His words "stone cold normal" heart - so he says to keep exercising and eating well. Reduce stress.

I am probably man enough to admit I'm a on/off hypochondriac. I over worry about my health and constantly obsess over it.

Lately, my BP has been normal to mildly high. Highest I've seen is 140/90 but more often 130s/high 70s or low 80s. My PCP is not concerned but said to keep exercising and dieting.

Cholesterol has been fine - GREAT HDL, great tris, slighly high LDL but my vLDL was great.

So, I've been having some weird "symptoms" lately:

random hot face (mildly red)
those higher BP readings
Random lightheadedness?
Random tiredness in legs when standing?
Lightheadedness upon standing (more often than usual)

I also had a panic attack the other day, so I know I'm super anxious right now.

My question: can anxiety cause all these? Can anxiety cause autonomic dysfunction? Should I get checked by the cardio again?

Answer
Hi Doug,
Re: can anxiety cause all these? Can anxiety cause autonomic dysfunction? Should I get checked by the cardio again?
Yes, no, no.
You certainly can get autonomic responses to anxiety but these are normal even if bothersome. It sounds like you need to deal with your anxiety issues, rather than worry about your heart!
Hope this helps,
Dr T
