Hi. Is broken heart syndrome real? how dangerous is it? I hear some people die from it. Does one have to rush to the hospital or does it resolve itself?

Hi Leda,
Yes it is. To confirm a diagnosis, a variety of tests will need to be done that include blood tests, an EKG, chest X-rays and an cardiac ECHO, and a CTA of the chest to exclude the possibility of a pulmonary embolism. Please read this:
