Heart & Cardiology/heart broken syndrome

Hi. Have a question about heart broken syndrome. How serious is it? can you die from it? do you have to go to the hospital or does it resolve itself?

Hi Leda, have a read of this article by a friend of mine, http://myheart.net/articles/can-you-die-from-a-broken-heart/

The broken heart syndrome is condition where the heart goes in to shock, often from an emotional shock. It is serious in that the heart functioning can suddenly deteriorate leading to shock and symptoms. Typically the function recovers without the need for specific treatment. Dying from it would be rare and the clinical course is typically to resolve. Due to the symptoms, most people known to have the syndrome will present to the hospital. Also its a diagnosis of exclusion so tests are run to rule out other causes of heart dysfunction.

Hope that was helpful,
