Question Is Coreg 6.25 mg contraindicated for an elderly patient with Sick Sinus Syndrome and severe bradycardia? Could a dosage this strong (Coreg 6.25) worsen the bradycardic effect prior to a pacemaker insertion?
Answer Dear Ms. Kevorkian,
Beta blockers iike Coreg usually don't slow the heart much when it's already slow. But the only way to find out if you can tolerate Creeg is try. You could start wtih 3.125 mg. If Coreg slows your heart significantly, you can always stop it, and your heart will rapidly return to its current rate. How severe is your bradycardia? I wouldn't hesitate to try Coreg if your heart rate is 45, would be a little reluctant if it's below 35. Why do you want to take Coreg anyway?
Please write back if you think I can help more, and PLEASE let me know what happens if you decide to try Coreg.
