Question
Wow...  this is the first time I've been to this site!  What a fabulous idea!  People, such as yourself, have all this knowledge and wisdom to share.  This site provides you with the avenue with which to do so, and creates such a wonderful resource for those of us who need what you possess.

Enough about that...  We have a Model U45/U46 Regency Gravity Direct Vent Wall Furnace.  All that is from the drop down metal door below the "firebox".  We got this unit second-hand and my husband installed it.  It has worked flawlessly for several years.  The only problem we have is the dial that increases the flame height is a bugger to turn.  We are in our early 60's and so that is becoming more of a problem (the turning :-).

We realize that this unit should be "serviced" yearly, but the costs are getting so high on any kind of service done in the home...  and I'm sure that my husband could perform the service...  if he just knew what it entailed.  He's got so many tools, I cannot imagine that he doesn't have what it takes to do this service, and if he needed an additional tool, he'd feel much better investing in the tool than paying someone else to do what he could do himself.  The old adage regarding feeding someone, or teaching them to fish so that they can feed themselves, right?

OK, I think that's it...  what does a yearly service entail on one of these units.  And if you have some idea regarding the fire height dial, that would also be much appreciated.

Bless you for sharing your knowledge, Pat Gustafson

Answer
Thank you, Pat for the very kind words. I have semi retired after 35 yrs & this sure keeps my mind active.Notice I said "semi', your friends won't ever let you go !!
I am acquainted with wall furnaces but no one that has adjustable flame height. Usually  , only the pilot light is adjustable. That is done with a small setscrew adjustment. The main gas valve is the only flame height
adjustment. But it should be wide open. Only service needed on them is clean out the dust that accumulates around the burners.Maybe tho, a little WD 40 around the valve may help.
