Heating, Air Conditioning, Fridge, HVAC - Aprilaire Steam Humidifier Controlling Rheem Furnace

Expert: J Cook - 1/24/2009

Question
I have a Rheem Criterion RGDG-12EARJR furnace which works just great.  Added an Aprilaire 1150 Steam Humidifier to the system and it's working great.  The Aprilaire is set to run when the main fan turns on and that's all fine.  But the Aprilaire can send a request for fan when it requires humidity.  I don't seem to be able to locate the controls/terminals on the furnace which allow it to receive an external start for the fan.  The furnace is 16 years old, so it may not have that feature.  Is there a way I can do this?  Thank you (in advance), Tom

Answer
Tom, it would require a somewhat complicated installation of a 24 volt relay added to the control circuit. Before I explain this entire process, would you be comfortable installing this relay, or would it be more simple to have a technician come in and install it to operate the fan on a humidity call? Thanks J
