Question
I have little experience in cooling systems. I am building a bilevel/hi-ranch house of 2,243 sq. ft. I need guidance on choosing a Home Cooling System Condenser & Coil (the hug e"boxes" outside of homes) for my new house. Can you help on what to choose/buy that will be good for my house and also is a good price. Thanks.

Answer
Jessy I commend you on seeking advice. I want you to get the best deal for your investment. I replaced both of my aging Carrier units with Goodman units. They have a full ten year warranty on every component, and if you ask up front, they offer an extended compressor warranty. At the time I made my purchase, I got a 99 year compressor warranty for $99. I do not believe anyone can beat that! I would also consider two units if the level split is very drastic. I have a two story home and use one unit up and one down, but on a split level, you may be able to do it with one unit and dampers. As far as size, that is another animal. A load calculation needs to be done by a contractor to determine the size unit required. It is a very detailed calculation and even takes into consideration the direction the home is facing. A home exactly like your across the street facing the opposite direction would have a different requirement. Have a reputable contractor do a calculation and get several quotes for an installation. Thanks J
