Heating, Air Conditioning, Fridge, HVAC - interlock

Expert: J Cook - 1/11/2009

Question
what would cause your furnace to ignite when using your kitchen hoodfan when the interlock should only cause the fan to come on to replace the air your hoodfan is removing

Answer
I am not sure who said the furnace fan will replace the exhausted air, but this is not the case. You are removing air from a space with an exhaust fan and a furnace fan is just recirculating existing air, it is not picking up any new air. A true exhaust fan set up has make up air that is pulled in at the same rate the exhaust fan is removing the air. The furnace will ignite only based on temperature drop and exhausting the heated air will drop the temperature and the furnace will have to heat. Thanks J
