Question Good Morning,
We are needing to replace our 9 year old Bryant furnace due to a cracked heat exchanger. Since the government is offering the tax credit we thought we would take advantage of it!
I've narrowed my decision down between two companies, both very reputible. However, they are really hard up for our business and thus making me very confused!!!
First visits, this is what they offered:
1. Rheem - RGRL-09 - 5 year manuf. warranty/parts, life heat exchanger warranty, 3 years service agreement, use existing therostadt $3995
2. Trane - XV, with 2 stage program thermostat, same warranty and service agreement as above, same price.
Rheem dealer called me back and said they would upgrade us to RGRM with new thermostat, drop the price $200 and extend the warranty to 10 years for parts/labor.
I know it sounds like a no brainier, but why did the Rheem dealer not give me this deal the first time. This is the part that isn't sitting well with me.
Any thought? Thanks
Answer Sue,
There are a hundred or so different brands of furnaces, each brand has about fifty or more model numbers which means about 5,000 furnaces.
I don't have a library for researching makes and models.
What helps me to figure a price is a description like, 90,000 BTU gas forced air up-flow furnace, 2 stage heat only.
The only warranty you can count on is the manufactures warranty, the rest of the stuff is only as good as the company or person your dealing with who may disappear right after they get your money, nothing anybody can do about that.
the manufacture can offer a life time warranty or what ever length of time warranty on parts, maybe some allowance for labor but most of the time the consumer pays for labor and maybe shipping, best way is contact Rheem and Trane and ask them what there warranty is, don't assume labor or shipping is included.
As far as why a dealer/contractor lowers a price or adds an incentive, who knows?
