Expert: Jim Barnhart - 11/2/2009
Question I smelled gas coming out of the furnace vent on the outside of my home. There was no smell in the furnace room or anywhere inside the house, but it was VERY noticeable outside anywhere near that vent. Could it be some kind of an exhaust smell that is similar to a natural gas smell? Is it something to be worried about?
Answer Linda,
Gas fumes smell like raw gas to a lot of people,
If your gas meter is nearby you can get a smell of gas from it at times.
It's not dangerous if it's not raw gas.
Call your gas company and ask them to check it, I don't think there is a charge.
