Heating, Air Conditioning, Fridge, HVAC - A/C UNIT

Question
Mr Cook, thank you for your time. I have a few questions. There is a guy on Craigs list selling York 3 ton units installed complete with air handler, says he is licensed and it comes with a 10 year warrantee. Is that a good price and is York a good unit? Also my home is right at 1400 sq ft would a 3 ton be the way to go or would a 4 ton be too much? One more, Is a heat pump unit or electric strip unit overall better and which one is easier on the electric bill? Thanks again, Chuck.

Answer
Several things Chuck. You did not give a price. Second, I would be very leary of internet sales. Some manufacturers do not offer warranty if purchased on the internet. Third, the only way to determine the proper size unit is to have a very extensive load calculation done that is unique to every structure. Two identical buildings can have different unit sizes depending on the direction they face. I am currently heating and cooling 2000 sq ft with a 2 ton unit, but I have over insulated everything. If the unit is too large, it will cool down quickly and cut off without dehumidifying and it will feel like a cool rain forest. Fourth, I personally do not use York units. The York units we have installed have been the most troublesome units so we do not recommend them. Thanks J
