Question I read a post from 2006 that had asked you about a noise their unit would make when the temperature was turned down from 80 to 78 degrees. I hear a noise in my outside unit as well, but only when I turn the heat up from 75 to 78 degrees. I've been haring the noise quite often lately and am scared to turn my heat back on. The unit is located in an outdoor balcony closet that is next to my son's room, should I be worried?
Thanks!
Answer Gina a generic noise is very difficult to diagnose. Look at the outdoor unit while it is making this noise. Make sure the fan visible at the top is not hitting anything inside of the unit. The compressor will also be running, make sure it does not have loose foot bolts allowing it to dance inside of the cabinet. These are the only two moving parts in the outdoor unit. There could also be an electrical sound from a number of parts in the unit, but you need to look closely to see if you can pin point the noise and let me know, Thanks J
