Heating, Air Conditioning, Fridge, HVAC - air handler blower will not shut off

Expert: J Cook - 3/28/2009

Question
I have a 2 year old ADP air handler furnace. The blower motor does not shut off when the fan is in the "auto" mode after the desired temp is achieved. I replaced the blower relay switch and it did not help. I have to turn the furnace breaker switch off to get it to stop. It also seems to be circulating warm air when it is not cooling. I noticed that the electric bill last month was extremely high and while the blower was running we used 10KW in a single hour. Any suggestions?

Answer
This could be a number of problems, but I would start with the thermostat. Go to the indoor unit with the power off and remove the wire on the thermostat terminal board on the W terminal. Turn the power back on and see it the heat still operates. Something is keeping the heat energized, thus keeping the fan also on. Thanks J
