Heating, Air Conditioning, Fridge, HVAC - HVAC home units

Question
I have a Goodman 2.5 ton 10 SEER heat pump system and the outside unit just went on me.  I've been looking to replace just that.  I've found a Haier System (HR30D1VAR)  That is a 13 SEER unit, but says it can work with a 10 SEER air handler.  Would you know if this is correct and if there would be a problem running two different brands.  Thanks.

Answer
Jeff, by code you can not mismatch equipment. I would also be very leary of anyone saying their 13 seer outdoor will work with a 10 seer indoor, that is just not the case and will lead to premature compressor failure. I would check with Goodman. I just replaced both of my aging Carrier units with Goodman and they have a full ten year warranty on every part and for $99, I got an extended 99 year compressor warranty. Even if the entire unit must be replaced, since you are replacing a Goodman, they should make you a deal to stay with Goodman, especially since the 10 seer is no longer made, and that is not your or Goodman's fault, it is federal regulations, you should get a break on a new system. Thanks J
