Heating, Air Conditioning, Fridge, HVAC - New Furnace Blower Motor

Expert: J Cook - 4/15/2009

Question
I just recently had a new blower motor installed in my Carrier furnance. The original one locked up after 6 year. Since the new one has been in place, it makes a loud humming noise. I had the technician come back out and he tested the electrical line going to the new mototr and it's drawing over 15+ amps to start it. Any ideas?

Answer
Kevin, some questions to ask, is this the exact replacement motor for the original, and was the capacitor also replaced. I never install a new motor without replacing the capacitor. Also 6 years is a short life for a motor, I am concerned you may have some defective blower bearings making the motor work extemely hard. With power off, open the access panel and manually spin the blower to ensure it moves freely. Thanks J
