Heating, Air Conditioning, Fridge, HVAC - Buying new A/C

Expert: J Cook - 5/12/2009

Question
I have two proposal and I would like to make the best decision. One is for Basic Amana A/C 2 tons 13 SEER 10 yr parts/compressor and 1 yr labor warranty. Second Basic Carrier 1.5 tons 13 SEER with 5 yr parts and 1 yr labor warranty. The proposals are only couple of hundreds in difference. I want to know which of these products are the best to choose for a long run. I have heard and read negative things about both. I just want to choose the most reliable unit.

Thank you

Answer
I had Carriers originally and had no problems with them. I replaced both systems with Goodman units. They were 1/2 the price of the Carrier's and had a full ten year warranty on everything and for an additional $99, I got a 99 year compressor warranty. An Amana unit should be 1/2 the cost of a Carrier, but personally I would not install one if it was free. That again is my opionion, but based on actual experience with them. Thanks J
