Heating, Air Conditioning, Fridge, HVAC - Janitrol compressor trips breaker

Expert: Howard Livingston - 5/21/2009

Question
I have a Janitrol compressor that occasionally trips the breaker.  If I reset the breaker (off and then back on) the compressor starts and runs fine.  The unit is about 8 years old.  Any thoughts?

Answer
Good question, difficult to answer. Many things can be the fault. First try tightening all the terminal on the power supply. Can be a gbad circuit breaker. Can be a shorting compressor motor windings. Can be a faulty run capacitor. Can be worn bearings in the compressor. I'm fighting one right now that trips the breaker after 4 starts. And on, and on.
