Question what should the temperature of the air coming out of the room register while the air conditioner is operating?
I am getting a temp of 71 degrees, is this normal?
Thanks, Jim
Answer Good question, Jim but tricky. An eveporator coil operates at 70 deg. BUT, from there a bunch of heat load is added in your attic where the ducts are located. The longer the run, the more the heat. So if your system is percolating to its best, try this to determine your cooling system is doing OK - or not.
With an aCCURATE thermometer, stick it in the main retuen air duct for 5 min.while its running Read it accurately. Then go halfway from the furnace to a supply grille. With the a/c on for at least 15 min, stick the thermometer inside the supply air grille & read it again the diffreence should be EXACTLY 17 deg. If it is 18 deg, the heat load is greater than the cooling capacity. 16 deg, it's too cold.
