Question is my second summer in a row with a high pitch noise coming from the A/C furnace. It only happens when it is very hot outside (usually on summer). It does NOT happen between October ~ March. It does NOT happen at night. It does NOT happen in the morning.
My A/C is 2 years old, Seer 15 Rheem 4 Ton split system. It works great as it cools down the house very efficiently even if outside is at 95 degrees. It works great even with the high pitch noise.
The system has a variable blower and it will cut off the refrigerant 10 seconds before it shuts down the blower. The high pitch noise does stop when the refrigerant is cut off. With this I have ruled out the hypothesis that it is an air-flow problem. I have also opened the A/C furnace and most of the noise seems to come from the expansion valve.
Any idea what is causing this based on the symptoms? Should I be able to exchange parts backed by Rheem's 5-year warranty?
Thanks
Answer Well, I was going to say air noise but not ! There has o be a restriction in the high side liquid line. Can you press a screw driver to the liquid line & put your ear on the end of the screwdriver to listen to the noise. Place it near the TXV valve & see if you can pinpoint the noise on the line. If the valve is adjustable I would try that. If not & the noise is from the valve it needs replacing. There. I said it.
