Heating, Air Conditioning, Fridge, HVAC - Kenmore SxS refrigerator

Expert: Eric Campion - 6/21/2009

Question
Model 106.54609300 - our fridge section has been freezing our food.  We cleaned the coils and waited 48 hours and still freezing.  Expect the thermostat/temperature control is probably bad - is there a way we can test if it is the sensor or the damper?  And just exactly is the thermostat/sensor?

Answer
Your unit is very complicated and houses several electronic controls.  Do you have a voltage meter and know how to use one?  TO start off with, there is a damper control which controls the amount of air being blown into the refrigerator section.  It is located in the fresh food section at the top left corner.  To remove this and inspect it, you must gain access to the freezer section and release the tabs, then pull it out into the refrigerator section.  Remove this and there is either a sliding door or a flapper style door within this damper control.  Check this closely and let me know if you can see anything mechanically broken.

Waiting to hear from you,
Eric Campion
