Heating, Air Conditioning, Fridge, HVAC - Maytag Plus MSD2458G Coil Frost

Expert: Eric Campion - 6/26/2009

Question
Hello. My Maytag Plus MSD2458G side by side refrigerator coil continues to frost up. The fan works and the compressor works. Obviously the defrost system is not working at all. Which part should I replace first? The timer, the thermostat, or the heater? Also, can you walk me threw the steps so that I don't have to hire out help? Please provide part numbers. Thanks So much!

Answer
Do you have a voltage meter and know how to use it?  If this has been going on for some time, do you remove the rear inside cover and defrost the coils with a hair dryer?  Next time you do, get you meter out and disconnect the wires going to the heater and check for continuity ont he heater.  If no continuity, the heater is defective.  If continuity, that is one item you willnot have to purchase and we can take this out of the equation.  Let me know what you find...

Waiting to hear from you,
Eric Campion
