Heating, Air Conditioning, Fridge, HVAC - Siegler fuel oil heater

Expert: Eric Campion - 6/30/2009

Question
I have lots of numbers from the different parts but before I send you all of that, can you help me with information on this type of heater?  It is a Siegler Automatic Oil Heater-Model 1050  Serial#01380.  The fuel oil will not flow in.  I had a repairman come who disconnected line and took out a "clog" and it has worked for 3 mos.  Now it will not flow again.  I would like to take it apart and clean it--I admit that is the first time I have crawled behind there with a light to even see what is back there in the 30 years since I have owned this place-it is very dusty and dirty.  Is this something I could do?  And what if I needed a part, are any available? (or a make do?)  No one "works on" these in this area anymore.  I'm not a wimp, I have done a lot of things- but not heaters.  Compared to today's furnaces it appears a simple assembly.  However, I don't even know, at this point, how to stop the fuel oil flow if I disconnect the line.  Can you help?
There is no drain at the bottom of the outdoor fuel oil tank to make sure sludge isn't coming from tank by draining it.  There is also no shut-off valve or filter coming out of the outdoor tank.
