Experience I currently have three HVAC licenses and Refrigeration license by the State of North Carolina. I have been in this field for over twenty years. I have been a service technician for a contractor and also worked at a state college in the repair and maintenance of steam lines and equipment. I am currently the Building Maintenance Superintendent for a municipality.
Question I am going to be building a 2800 square feet home soon. It is going to be two story an the 2nd floor are 4 bedrooms and 2 full baths. The first floor 7 living areas one of them is the master room. Any help or ideas would be heplful and thank you.

Answer Unless you can afford an elaborate control system, and even then I would still install an upstairs and a downstairs unit. I also have a two story home and have had excellent service with two units. Keep in mind your set up is just like mine with upstairs bedrooms. With separate units, you can set back the upstairs temperature during the day until late evening when the bedrooms will be used and set back the downstairs at night while sleeping and both areas during the day. I also replaced my aging Carrier units with Goodman. They have a full ten year warranty on every part and for an additional $99 per unit, an extended compressor warranty of 99 years! The two Goodmans were less than one Carrier or Trane. Thanks
