Heating, Air Conditioning, Fridge, HVAC - Outdoor AC Unit stopped working

Expert: Eric Campion - 7/4/2009

Question
Hi I live in north Texas where the temperature is in the 100s. We have Train XR 11 outdoor ac unit (almost 6 years old) that has been working fine until this morning.  Thermostat and inside unit seem to be working fine, and the air filter looks clean.  However the air blowing out of our ceiling vents is not cold. My brother said the outdoor AC unit was making an unusually loud buzzing noise this morning but no fan was turning.  I went outside and now there is no buzzing, no fan... the unit looks and sounds dead, but looks very clean inside and out.

I have not powerwashed the coils because it looks clean and I don't see any cottonwood fluff or anything.  It is very hot here and I would like to get my AC to work but not going to call a technician on the 4th of July.

Here is the info I wrote down on the plate on the outdoor unit.

Trane XR 11
Mfg. 08/2003
Model No. 2TTR1036A1000AA
Serial No. 33221NX5F
