Heating, Air Conditioning, Fridge, HVAC - Puron/R22 mixed system

Expert: Craig HVAC Expert - 7/11/2009

Question
Is there a way to change valves out of a R22 air handler to accommodate the use of a ( R-410-A) puron condenser? I wish to update my two year old system to R410A, and just can't go the cost of both air handler, and condenser.
I have a Carrier Mod. # FK4DNF005 A/H, and would like to match it up with a 682AJ042-C condenser.

Answer
You can not use a R-22 evap coil with R-410a.  The coil was never rated to run at the pressure of R-140a.  The coil is also full of oil, which is nearly impossible to remove.  The oil for R22 is NOT compatable with R-410a.  It might be possible to get a R-410 evap coil that will fit into the air handler.
