Question Howard.
I'm having a problem with rain coming down the "inside" of my Gas furnace flu. I have tried two different caps including a $160.00 "Guaranteed Hurricane proof" cap. I have also tried raising the vent pipe by two feet to make sure I wasn't getting a down draft from the roof. I live in N Central Fl. and we get storms daily this time of year and if the wind is up I get water down the inside of the flu. My garage, where the furnace is located also has a make up air vent though the roof. I have three other vents for the dryer, water heater and make up air and no water coming down these. Could I be getting a negative air flow down the flu caused by the make up vent. your thoughts, please.
Answer Hi Syd, wishyou would send the rain over here in TX. We are 106 every day, no rain,
Only thing I can imagine happening is the gap between the pipe & the roof jack hasn't been sealed. But you say "inside the pipe". Can't imagine how that can happen. Presume you have double walled flue pipe ?? Sory, but thats a puzzle to me.
