Question
Jim,
I am only using the lower level of a 4,000 sq.ft. house. i would like to shut off heating ducts to the three bedrooms upstairs. I have them almost shut down, but I hear rumors that if I shut off the heating ducts completely and close all doors that it would cause the plaster to crack, etc.
What would you suggest to minimize the gas heating bill in Michigan?
Ed

Answer
Ed,
Shut off the heating ducts to the three bedrooms, even cover them with some aluminum foil or something to keep the air from blowing in,
The attached dampers are not 100%.
If anything is going to crack your plaster, dry out the furniture, dry your skin it's the heat.
