Question
QUESTION: what would be the operating pressures of a janitrol 4.5 ton ac about 12 years old w/outside temps in the 90's

ANSWER: The pressures will fall into a range.  The suction is going to be between 64-80 and the discharge is going to be 225-275.  I am guessing  you have an R-22 system.  Keep in mind the pressures are not the only thing that determine if the unit is operating properly.

QUESTION: Thanks for the answer. the pressures were 75-220 and i raise them to 80-225 but unit still can't keep up with this heat in Houston, 98-101. it just not enough unit for a 2200sq.ft house.

Answer
Adjusting the pressure alone is not going to solve a problem.  In order to know if the unit is working properly, all the temps and pressures have to be taken.  It is possible to over charge the unit, which can cause the compressor to flood back, and destroy the compressor.
