Heating, Air Conditioning, Fridge, HVAC - my air conditioner

Question
Hello! I'm sorry but I don't know the make and model or the year of my central air so if can't fully help me I will understand but any answer will help tremendously. For the past 2 years my ac will work great for the first couple of months after that it is very tempermental! Usually when you first start it it comes out strong, blowing hard with ice cold air then after about 10 minutes or so the air pressure will be very little but the air is still very cold. As I said before in the beginning of the summer it always works great for 2 months then it does this! We called to have a technician come out but they said it would be 150 dollars for them to just look at it to diagnose the problem and atleast if we had any lead as to what it was it would be helpful! Also about 4 years ago I had a friend out that is an hvac tech because my ac was doing the same thing! He said that it was clogged and cleaned it out and it worked good for about 2 years? Do you think this is the problem? If so what would be the best way for me to clean it by myself? Any answer you could give me would be great! Thanks for your time!

Answer
First I would get it cleaned out. Yes, it could just be that. Plus, it may be a bit low on freon. I open the blower door & inspect the blower for dirt, etc. Then clean everything. Then I open the bottom of the coil & clean the coil. Before I give instructions on cleaning I would suggest getting your friend back & pay him something to clean it. Open it up & tell me how dirty it looks. Then look on the I.D. plate inside the furnace for make & model. Then go outside & look on that I.D. plate for that info. Later
