Question Does the drain fittings need to be glued together and can they just hook together dry? I know it sounds like a dumb question, but I found mine just hooked together dry. I glued one of them because the fitting came apart and no one new because they had black foam insulation covering the entire drain piping. I know there is anther fitting down stream but cant reach it to expose and glue. Question, should I hire someone to confirm fitting is glued and leak free? I'm in the process of purchasing this new home and builder went out of business
Answer The drain fittings should be glued, but I usually leave the upstream side of one of the horizontal fittings out of the drain pan(before the drop) unglued so that the drain pan opening can be checked/cleared if needed. This should not leak as water doesn't flow upstream. The only way it will leak is if the drain line is plugged and backs up. If the drain line is plugged and it backs up, the drain pan would overflow anyway if the fitting was glued.
