Heating, Air Conditioning, Fridge, HVAC - compressor not turning on

Expert: Craig HVAC Expert - 7/3/2009

Question
I have a carrier unit with the unit in the attic and the compressor outside. When I turn on the ac the unit upstairs blows air out the vents but for some reason the compressor is not turning on. The breakers are all fine, there is no water in the drip pan and the safety switch in the drip pan is not tripped. Any help would be appreciated. Out of work and could use the money savings.

Answer
Using a meter, the power needs to be checked at the cond. unit to see that the compressor contactor coil is getting 24v and there is also 220v to the contactor on the line side.  Depending on what power is or is not found will determine which way the troubleshooting will have to continue.
