Question
QUESTION: I have a 2 year old unit 3 ton, that all of a sudden with in the last day has stopped blowing cold air and it is just cool. outside the fan above the compressor is running, the air handler is also running. the t-stat turns it on and off like normal. the only thing that is a little off is when i am outside i can hear a buzzing sound come from the outside unit. it buzzes for a few seconds and then stops. it does that off an on at random. any suggestions

ANSWER: Mike,
It sounds like your compressor inside your outside condensing unit isn't running as it should or not at all?

QUESTION: you were 100% right, HVAC guy came out today and said the same thing. now the compressor is still under warranty and all, being only 2 years old,  so at least i save some money there. my unit was sent as a complete split system. the manual for the air handler says that I can use the 410a refrigerant. the outside unit doesnt say that anywhere but like i said was sent as a complete split unit. now if i can use it, would i save money using the new 410a or is the r-22 cheaper? in your opinion would it be better to transfer it now since i will be replacing the compressor and just flush out the system? the main thing here is money, the heat pump only hits the $200/month during the extreme hot month here in NC.

Answer
Mike,
I don't know your unit?, what they'll do for warranty?, Regardless It really doesn't matter what refrigerant the system is compatible with,
Whatever it is that's what you use.
There shouldn't be any price difference except the scare tactics an AC tech might use on you.
