Heating, Air Conditioning, Fridge, HVAC/Cold Air Working, Hot Air Not

Question
We woke up to a cold down stairs this morning. I believe we have a two unit (not zone?) system, but I really don't know enough to say for sure. I'm pretty new to all of this stuff.

At any rate, the upstairs is heating itself well, currently at 75 degrees which is what my wife has the thermostat set to. The downstairs is set to the same but no hot air is blowing. For whatever reason, I turned the cold air on to see if that would work and it does, so this leads me to think the system itself is fine, though that's just a guess. So, turning the downstairs thermostat to cool clicks the system on and it blows cold air, moving it to heat turns the system off. Thoughts? Any help is greatly appreciated, it's pretty hard to get someone to come out on New Years Eve and it's pretty cold.
