Heating, Air Conditioning, Fridge, HVAC/Fridge Question


QUESTION: Hello fellow expert. I volunteer my time on this site as well and offer security expertise. I have a very old Kenmore fridge. The fan is not running, and has not been for some time. The freezer is getting warmer. I have vacuumed the coil, checked operation. When I move the thermostat, I can force the fan on, however, it wont stay on for long. I unplugged the fridge for 2 hours, replugged it in, and it ran in a similar manner as when I adjusted the thermostat. There is no absolutely no ice buildup. I am thinking the defrost thermostat might be bad.. Any tricks or suggestions you can provide to addressing this issue would be much appreciated.

ANSWER: Thanks for the model number.  You say the fan is not running....Try pulling the fan motor out and bench test it.  Let it run for about an hour. This will determine if the problem is with the fan motor or the supplying voltage.  Let me know hat you find.

QUESTION: The fan runs intermittently. The fan works... see above the symptoms..

Above symptoms do not indicate you remove the fan and bench tested it.  I looked for a schematic for your unit and am not able to find one.  Is there a schematic on the rear of your unit?  I do not think your units fan goes through the defrost terminator....however.....

Please bench test as described.  Keep in mind, I am here and you are there...help me help you....
