Question
Dear Mr.Joe,

Sir I would like to know the use of U-traps in the field of residential AC installation.?

Not in all the sites i have seen this, but in fewer sites i have noticed this.

What will happen if we are not using U-traps in a building say 9floors height.??

Is it necessary to have U-traps in horizontal piping.??

Answer

Re: What's The Purpose Of Condensate Trap?
A trap on an ac is only necessary in a negative air flow coil like an packaged unit. If you do not trap a packaged unit you run the risk of trapping the condensate in the pan. On other applications you need an air gap like an open tee. Yes install for horizontal piping
