Question I recently obtained a Frigidaire FAC107P1A5 and even when I push the on/off button to turn off the unit something inside (compressor) continues to run. It once even kicked out a breaker. Any suggestions?
I have great mechanical skills and can usually find the problem but this one is out of my area.
Answer Andrea,
Circuit breaker trips probably due to compressor still running and the fan stopped, when you turn it off causing excessive refrigerant pressures which increases the amperage and trips the breaker, that's my guess. First place I would start is the push button switch itself as everything usually goes thru that switch . (fan start/stop compressor start/stop).I think internally the switch it's not opening the circuit to the compressor. Also check to see if there is a compressor contactor relay that stuck closed ( points welded shut due to normal arcing ) Look at the wiring diagram also and follow the 3 wires from the compressor to see where they go.It should go to someplace that controls the start/stop of it. You did not mention the thermostat being stuck- if the stat was stuck closed the compressor and fan motor would never shut off, You are not indicating that in your question,so I'm assuming it's OK. If you have a ohms meter you can check the push button and any contactor
