Heating, Air Conditioning, Fridge, HVAC - Ice Maker w/no water feed

Expert: Eric Campion - 5/4/2006

Question
I have a Amana THI21S3L Top Freezer w/ice maker which is about 11 years old.

It stopped making feeding water about a week ago. It appears that it goes through the cycle of heating and spinning but without the water. I pulled the unit(that is how I found out it was still heating, ouch). Which was pretty easy. 3 screws and a connector. There is water to the frig. But can not not verify anything else.

Time for a replacement unit or is it something more complicated? I haven't checked for a frozen feed tube but will tonight. Couldn't be that simple could it?

Beau

Answer
Hello Beau,
It's possible that the only problem right now is a block water feed tube.  Bottom line is the water valve is most likely leaking causing the feed tube to freeze.  By the ice making being hot is a good thing as it is cycling.  There is a possibility the module inside the ice maker is bad.  Then again, I cannot tell from the look-up if it has one because the new replacement has a module inside.  We will cross that bridge if and when we need to...for now, one step at a time......Let me know if the tube was froze shut....easiest way is to remove the line going to the ice maker from the water valve and blow into it.  You should be able to very easily...If you need further assistance, feel free to email us at sales@affordableappliance.com or you can visit our website at http://www.affordableappliance.com   Keep in mind we do stock 1000's of Major Home Appliance Parts both New and Good Quality Used.
