Question I have a problem with the unit leaking water in my basement. I have to put several towels down to soak up the water continuosly. I had the repairman in yesterday and he said it was 3 lbs low of freon which he replaced but the unit is still leaking. He also blew out the drain tube from the drip pan to make sur it isnt clogged and he checked the pump that sends the water out of the house that also is functioning. Do you have any other ideas as to what it might be? Iam running out fo towels
Answer There are several things that I think it could be. It would be helpful if you could find out exactly where the water is coming from. I would check the trap on the condensate drain pan and make sure it has water in it, that it is deep enough and that water is draining off the drain pan. If the drain tube does not have a trap in it it may not function correctly. I would also look to see if any of your ducts are sweating and dripping onto the floor and causing the mess. The next thing I would check would be if the drain pan is not draining fast enough and water is blowing off the coils and leaking out onto your floor. I would try to spend some time and find out where the water is leaking from, make sure that the condesate drain pan isn't to full and that it is draining properly and make sure the ducts aren't sweating. If the ducts are sweating and causing the problem then you will need to get the air temperature around the ducts down by blowing some cool air into that space from the cooling system.
