Question What is the difference between death metal and screamo music. i thought i had it figured out but i am getting more confused by the minute. screamo bands are starting to sound more like death metal. it all started with listening to all that remains they are supposably metal but sound like screamo. any help would be great. thanks!
Answer Hi there. I know about metal, screamo is not metal but I still think I can tell you the difference.
Screamo evolved from emo and hardcore music in the early 90s. The lyrics are different from what is usually found in death metal music. There are screaming vocals which are not usually found in death metal (death metal vocalists usually use death growls or grunts), they feature harmonised melodic guitars and there are usually breakdowns in the music which are pretty slow. Death metal in general is much heavier, using blast beats for the drums, death metal can feature chromatic chord progressions and a varied song structure without a standard verse-chorus arrangement. These compositions tend to emphasize an ongoing development of themes and motifs.
To basically sum this up, the genres are totally different, screamo is more closely related to grindcore music than death metal music, the heaviness, lyrics and technical ability is a defining factor in this.
