Question I was wondering if you could give me a brief history of metalcore, and also if you knew who the first metalcore band was.

Since metalcore is a relativley new genre, there isnt really much history to speak of. However, I believe metalcore started in around 2001/2002 just when the nu-metal era had peaked and ended. Killswitch engage where probably the first metalcore band as they released 'alive or just breathing' in 2002 and this album was a real sucess. Killswitch engage then went on to influence bands such as chimaira, god forbid, as i lay dying, and trivium. Trivium's 'ascendancy' and killswitch's 'end of heartache' are the best albums to come from the genre.
I think the genres lost a lot of momentum lately as the rise of the 'emo rock' era is dominating at the moment. Killswitch engage and trivium are still selling records well and touring well, i just think they have to be patient and wait for their chance to break.
