To my thinking, it really depends on your style of play. I wear my guitar quite low, because I find it easier to play, and easier to ajust when you're messing around on stage.
But, if you find it easier to play with the guitar higher up, you should do that. Whatever works, right?

I can never quite figure out how high to wear my guitar either. But I'm experimenting with wearing it higher lately and it's much easier to nail riffs, especially if they involve jumping any distance. For instance try the main riff from Back in Black with your guitar high and low. The part where you have to stretch across a bunch of frets is much easier when it's higher. Also I used to think that the guitar had to be on the low side for a rock and roller to look cool, but now I think guitarists look coolest when they are exceptionally comfortable with the instrument on their body and the guitar sort of becomes an extension of their body. If that means playing it higher that's okay. I've seen some very cool guitarists play that way. And of course John Lennon always looked cool with his guitar way up high.
