Subject: guitar straps

Question
Hi there, I'm 30, male, just started out learning the elec guitr as a hobby, and mainly been playing metal (been playing for 4 years). Anyway, not sure how low to wear my guitar (ie adjust the guitar strap to hold the guitar at a certain length). Most pros I've seen wear their guitar quite low, should I do the same? Its a bit of a stretch though! I find it most comfortable at sitting-position height, but I dont like the way it looks on me. I think your profile states you're a pro guitarist, how do you wear yours?

Cheers

Answer
Hey there thanks for the question.

I wear my guitar quite high to be honest.  It is at a perfect height to reach all the frets without much effort and I can play rather fast through all the strings.  I suppose it can depend on what you are wanting to play...if you dont do solos very often then wearing your guitar at a height which suits riffing would make sense.

But you do say its a bit of a stretch, so if it is uncomfortable for you then definetly dont do it!  If the most comfortable way of playing for you doesnt look right then I say you should just do it anyway.  If you are very comfortable then you will play your best.

I play my guitar just at my stomach...and that is very high up...but I can play like that for hours!!

So I recommend you play at the height which is better for playing and not for how it looks...this will result in a better standard of playing

Anything else you want to add?
