Subject: Is Thomas a Hebrew name, or is there an equivalent?

Question
My husband's mother is Jewish, and she named him Thomas. Is this a Hebrew name?  Or is there a Hebrew equivalent?  What would it look like?

Thank you very much!

Answer
April,

'Thomas' comes from the Aramaic Toma, which means 'Twin'. Hebrew and Aramaic are sister-languages and many words are similar or identical. In Hebrew, the word for twin is Teom, spelled tav aleph vav mem-sofit, תאום
