Question
Can you tell me what (Shin & Mem) spell and then (Tav & Yod).
Thank you.
Don

Answer
Don,

Depending on where the vowels are placed, shin mem can be read in a variety of ways:

1. shem (the name of one of biblical Noah's sons)
2. shem (name)
3. sham (over there)
4. sam (put)

tav yod is used as a suffix. When added to a verb, it turn it into past tense, first person:

1. samti (I put)

All the best,
