Hebrew Language/JAMES VS. JACOB

Question
IS THE NAME JAMES THE SAME AS JACOB IN HEBREW OR ARE THEY DIFFERENT?    THANK YOU.

Answer
Dear Mr. Sylvester,

The names James and Jacob are indeed the same when referring to the Biblical characters. It is believed that the translators of the King James Bible replaced the name Jacob with James in honor of the king. All other languages preserve a local variation of Jacob, such as Jacques in French.

I have had no success in determining the origin of the name James.

All the best,
Aiden
