Question
I am in the process of getting my undergraduate degree in Speech Pathology and know that a masters degree is necessary.  Due to the competition in this field I am wondering what other masters programs I could consider.

Answer
Hi, K.

When you say competition, I'm not sure if you are talking about competition for getting into a masters SLP program or competition for getting a job.  I believe that there is still plenty of work for SLP's (though I don't really know for sure.)

As far as getting in, if you are willing to relocate, I think you can probably get in some place.  You need a good GPA and a good GRE score.  The GRE is quite learnable - I've been teaching it for 19 years - and you could expect to make a lot of progress on it if you can study it for 6 to 8 months with expert guidance.

If SLP is your main goal, I would suggest doing your best to get accepted into that.  If you are not able to succeed, then you could look at other options. But there is a lot you can do to get accepted. In fact well over 90% of my students do get in.  You may just need a little expert support in preparing a competitive application.

For a lot of free information on being competitive and on the GRE, please see my site at http://www.cuttsreviews.com

You are also welcome to call me or contact me directly to talk about your situation.

I hope that helps.
