Question
Hello,
I'm thinking about applying to grad school within a year, so I  want to begin to prepare for the GRE soon. My question is: what are the best books and courses (and how much will they cost me)?
Also, is it true that the score generally drops in relation to the SAT? I got a 710 verbal/640 math/720 writing as an undegrad, and I was hoping to bring it up... Is this really difficult?

Answer
Hi, Kari.

Actually I specialize in helping people prepare for the GRE and have been doing this full time with people all around the country and internationally for 17 years.

On my website I have a lot of free materials to help you with the application process itself, including my booklet on the personal statement and admissions.  There is also a month by month email planning session that helps give you a better idea of what to do, when to do it and how to do it.  All of this info is free at:

http://www.cuttsreviews.com/jcutts/

I also have a comprehensive guide to understanding what commercial prep companies can and cannot do.

There are a lot of hidden patterns to the GRE. It is not just about factual knowledge, math facts or vocab.  The good news is that it is learnable.  Most commercial prep programs do focus on facts.  I work with you on stategy and new thinking tools to help you work through the questions.

I'll be glad to talk with you on the phone about your plans and we can go over your options together.  You can reach me day or evening, 7 days, at:

800-353-4898

I hope that helps for now.  Let me know if you have further questions.

Best,

Jay Cutts
